PennDot Certification Courses

EIC (Emissions Inspector Certification)
12 hours - $200 (includes hard copy manual)

This course is a PA Department of Transportation mandated training for all inspectors and automotive repair technicians conducting emission inspections.  Students successfully completing this program will qualify to be a PA Enhanced Emissions Inspector. Successful students will attend all sessions and successfully complete a CBT and multiple choice test. All testing is completed on the computer. 

Important new step:    Once registered, PENNDOT requires students to purchase an exam package from the PA Training Portal website ( www.patrainingportal.com ).    The package consists of training materials and   two   exam attempts.  The cost of this package is $39.99, payable via credit or debit card.  Students may purchase as soon as they are registered OR on the first night of class.

Safety Inspection Tool Practice
6 hours  $150

Are you ready to take the Safety Inspection Certification course but would like more practice with the tools?  Here’s your chance.  This hands on course will give you the opportunity to practice using the tools listed in the Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Regulations to perform a complete inspection.  Practice working with micrometers, ball joint gauges, riveted, bonded, and disc type measuring tools, brake drum gauge, tread depth gauge, and headlight aimers while following regulated inspection procedures.  This class can help you build the skills necessary to perform a thorough inspection with confidence.

SI (Safety Inspector Certification)

12 hours - $200.00 (includes manual and 1 category (CAT 1, CAT 2, or CAT 3); CAT 4 - $40; adding additional categories-CAT 2-$50; CAT 3-$100)

Students successfully completing this program will qualify to be a PA Safety Inspection Mechanic. Successful students will attend all sessions, pass a baseline test, written test, and satisfactorily perform a complete inspection of a vehicle.  Upon successful completion, the student will receive a safety inspection certification card approximately 6-8 weeks post class end. When registering, please identify the class/categories for certification:  1-Passenger Cars/Light Truck; 2-Motorcycles; 3-Trucks & Busses.

Prerequisite:  Must be 18 years of age, possess a valid operator's license for each class vehicle intending to inspect, and have a basic understanding of automotive mechanics.
