Shea Lightcap - April 2026 SOTM

Shea Lightcap has been selected as UBCTS’s April Student of the Month. A Pennridge student who resides in Telford, Shea is the oldest of four siblings, with two sisters and a brother, so it’s safe to say she’s had plenty of experience being a role model. At home, she enjoys the company of her two dogs, who are likely just as lively.

Shea decided to attend UBCTS just before the application deadline. Although she was initially hesitant to leave her friends, she ultimately followed her interests after touring the school in 8th grade and began her journey in 9th grade. Since then, she has fully embraced the experience—and it’s safe to say she made the right choice.

One of Shea’s favorite aspects of her program has been the relationships she has built, both with her classmates and the animals she works with. She appreciates that, much like people, every critter has its own unique personality. A standout moment during her time at UBCTS was participating in the Farm Show, which she describes as a rewarding and memorable experience.

Shea has been an active member of FFA for all four years, demonstrating strong commitment and leadership. In 10th grade, she competed in a Career Development Event, earning a top-five placement. She has also achieved her Keystone Degree, further highlighting her dedication and accomplishments within the organization.

Outside of school, Shea enjoys playing volleyball, as well as painting, drawing, and reading. She also volunteers at New Britain Veterinary Clinic, gaining valuable hands-on experience and continuing to grow her skills (and probably making a few animal friends along the way).After graduation, Shea plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study Biological Sciences, with the long-term goal of attending veterinary school. Her ultimate aspiration is to work in the rehabilitation of racehorses, combining her passion for animal care with her career ambitions.
