Congratulations Paola Elias Rios for Being Named June Student of the MonthPaola Elias Rios Law Enforcement & Pennridge High School

Paola Elias Rios SOTM June 2026

We are beyond proud to present Paola Elias Rios as our June student of the month. Paola, a Pennridge graduate, always knew she wanted a career in the trades or a hands-on field rather than pursuing a traditional college path. As she explored her interests entering high school, she considered several programs, including Law Enforcement, Graphics, and Collision Repair. Initially, she chose Collision Repair in 9th grade because she believed it would provide strong career opportunities and financial stability.

After spending two years in the program, Paola realized that collision work was not the right long-term fit for her. Wanting a path that better matched her personality and interests, she transferred into the Law Enforcement program. She immediately connected with the program's structure, discipline, and environment and knew it aligned more closely with her future goals.

Throughout her time in the program, Paola has continued to challenge herself and expand her skills. She competed in the Job Skill Demonstration A competition through SkillsUSA districts, where she earned 1st place in Drone Setup and Operations. Her success advanced her to the state competition in Hershey. In addition, Paola is a Certified FAA TRUST (The Recreational UAS Safety Test) Drone Operator, demonstrating both technical knowledge and responsibility in drone safety and operations.

Last year, during a presentation for Legislative Day, Lieutenant Whitesell, Lieutenant Mander, and Superintendent Rousset visited UBCTS to speak with students. During their discussion, topics surrounding the corrections field were introduced, and Paola became intrigued by the opportunities and responsibilities within the profession. Curious to learn more, she spent the summer researching the field and began to see corrections as a possible career path for herself. Once the new school year began, UBCTS worked closely with the Corrections Facility to coordinate approvals, inspections, and arrangements for a student shadowing experience. By April, all of the planning had become a reality. Paola was allowed to observe cadet training twice a week for six weeks, allowing her to fully immerse herself in the corrections environment without immediately committing to the career path.

The experience provided Paola with a valuable, firsthand look into the demands, expectations, and culture of the profession. More importantly, it confirmed for her that this was a field where she could truly see herself succeeding. As a result of her experience, Paola plans to enroll in the cadet training program this October as she continues pursuing a career in corrections.

Congratulations Paola!
